Sppu Adding New Course in Ciricullum


 Students at SPPU will be able to take courses in museology

Through a collaboration with Kelkar museum, the university will launch a program in museology science and museum management.

Under the initiative, a new department ‘museology and heritage studies' will be established at SPPU. 

Students will soon be able to pursue courses in museology at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU). In collaboration with the Kelkar museum, the varsity will begin a program of research and study in museology science and museum management. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding the same was recently signed at SPPU.



Museology is a multidisciplinary subject that encompasses different features of history, archaeology, research and archiving.


Under the initiative, a new department ‘museology and heritage study’ will start at SPPU. In the department, various diploma and degree courses will be offered. According to officials, the courses are likely to be offered from the next academic year.


In addition, SPPU vice-chancellor is a lifetime member of the Kelkar museum for his role in promoting academic and museum collaborations. While the current SPPU vice-chancellor Prof Nitin Karmalkar who is about to retire in this week took the significant decision of setting up a new department for the study of museums.


As a result of the initiative, new opportunities will be generated for students in the realms of research and employment. Professor Karmalkar said that the Kelkar museum is one of the most renowned museums in the state and students will be able to learn a lot from their experiences at the museum.
